In 2016, I lost a suitcase containing all the hard drives with my photographs taken over the previous ten years. After an initial shock, I decided to start photographing boxers. I believe that, subconsciously, it was my way of reacting through a sport that, more than any other, is a metaphor for life: if you fall, you must get back up; if you're cornered, you must find a way out.
Over the course of four years, I found myself suddenly photographing boxing matches, the lives within gyms, the tough training sessions, and using the metaphor of boxing as a life experience. I photographed boxing matches for a few years at the historic Teatro Principe in Milan and, to this day, I consider it my photographic training ground.
Finally, after traveling extensively throughout Italy in search of future champions, I wrote a longform piece for Il Foglio detailing the reality of boxing in the Italian suburbs.
